Moving past our emotional blocks
You cannot be truthful if you are not courageous
You cannot be loving if you are not courageous
You cannot be trusting if you are not courageous
You cannot inquire into reality if you are not courageous
Hence courage comes first
and everything else follows
There are plenty of times when we feel trapped by an emotional pattern that we just can't seem to shake off. We start to feel very heavy and unable to move forward, unable to see our choices, unable to hear the answers.
An emotional block appears when we can't let go of the past - whether the past happened many years ago or just last week - bringing with it frustration, anger, sadness, feelings of being lost. In most instances it is the result of years of repressing our emotions, so when a trigger appears these emotions come back to our awareness inviting us to get lost with the stories that fuel them, thus intensifying their effects. Meanwhile we try to deny the way we feel, we continue telling ourselves that it is wrong to feel this way, that we should just forget about it and move on. In this way, we create a block for the energy of the emotion to continue on its way to finally leave our body - so it lingers longer and eventually gets covered with another emotion.
How do we move forward? how can you move past these emotional blocks?
First of all, stop for a moment and acknowledge the way you feel. Take deep breaths to clear your mind so you can relax into the present moment, allowing things to be exactly as they are. Relax you body, heavy emotions tend to keep us tense. Now feel the emotion in your body, stop fighting it and denying it the right to be there - where do you feel it? can you soften that place a little bit more? Your mind may want to chip in reminding you why you feel this way, so just place your awareness on the feeling, letting go of the story that keeps you trapped in it. Surround yourself with love and compassion, slow down, call on the energy of forgiveness to be present: forgiveness for yourself and for the ones that have hurt you.
By just accepting the way you feel, you relax your hold into the past and little by little you will start to feel lighter; by staying present with the way you feel right this moment, you keep control of your reactions, remembering to be kind and loving to all.
So take time every day to be still and quiet. Ask for guidance and trust in the process, trust your own voice. Go on, be courageous.
